Maine in May: Part 1

Maine 2014 May 128My husband Ken’s maternal family hails from Caribou, Maine–about a 30 mile drive south of the Canadian border. If Maine is on your travel bucket list, check out these links & images to inspire your journey. We last visited in May. We’ve also visited in July (very busy) and December (very cold). Next time I hope to visit during the colorful fall splendor.

We flew from Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Boston, Massachusetts and rented a car for this 6+hour journey, spending the night in the capital city of Augusta. As a follower, you know “the journey is as important as the destination.” So, our first stop was at America’s First Public Beach, http://reverebeach.com/, a short distance from Boston’s Logan International Airport. Maine 2014 May 012We then headed north to visit http://www.augustamaine.gov/. We toured the state capital grounds, explored the walking trails, enjoyed Viles Arboretum and feasted at http://theredbarnmaine.com/

After a night of swimming and exercising at the Hampton Inn, we headed north on Mother’s Day to join Ken’s mother, caring for her ailing father in the nursing home.
